Hunan Style Intestine Hot Pot

It is actually a small hot pot restaurant, but it has always been welcomed by local hot pot lovers. The northerners feel curious about the southern style pots in Hunan Province. Often crowded, people may need to queue for quite a long time to have a seat. The pot dishes are mostly made of pig intestine as ingredients, which should be washed very clean and thoroughly cooked, otherwise they may harmful to customers' health. At the restaurant, the intestine is clean and without any strange smell, so you can sample with reassurance.

There are over ten kinds of broth for pig intestine hot pot provided, some hot and spicy, while Chinese pancake or rice is for staple food.

Ox Parts Made by a Couple

About 1,800 years ago during the Three Kingdoms Period, a couple founded a small restaurant, which catered sailors, fishermen and passengers staying along Jialing River (嘉陵江) at Nanchong City (南充市) where had been the hometown of the late paramount leader of China, Deng Xiaoping (1904 – 1997), in Sichuan Province, southwest China.

The restaurant's business had always been good and one of the famous generals of that time often visited to drink. He praised the cold meat dishes the couple made, and called their restaurant "Couple's Ox Lung Slices" (夫妻肺片), because the beef recipes were delicious, fresh, soft and spicy.

Through the development in later ages, added about forty kinds of Chinese herb, and some spices and Chinese liquor, the "Ox's Lung" recipes has become foods for posh leisure or sometimes, remedial use. However, the lung pieces are actually without a little slice of an ox's lung, but the flesh and many other parts of the animal.

Tianchu Miaoxiang (Vegetarian)

Tucked into the Tsinghua Science Park (清华科技园) at Zhongguancun of Beijing, this pleasant restaurant is well worth seeking out for its delicious mock-meat versions of classic and more unusual Chinese fare. Tianchu Miaoxiang (天厨妙香) may be the best cost-performance vegetarian restaurant in Beijing. The menu is clearly printed but without the profound and difficult Buddhist words that other vegetarian restaurants have. There is one little drawback that the dishes are quite oily.

West Lake Boat Restaurant
